Dr Thomas Kell


Thomas is a highly experienced and well-known senior leadership expert and the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Dr Thomas Kell Leadership Diagnostics and Development. Based in Germany and working internationally, he focuses on leadership diagnostics at individual and organisational level and has a specific expertise in predicting the cultural fit of leaders with organisations. He has worked with large multinationals, family businesses as well as private equity clients.

Thomas had a long-standing leadership consulting career with Heidrick & Struggles from 1996 until 2012, becoming a senior partner in 2002. He started the management appraisal activities there and led the management appraisal practice in Europe and Asia. He was actively involved in all consulting projects and has conducted a large number of international and national assignments in Europe and the US. Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Thomas was a consultant at Boston Consulting Group.

Thomas studied physics and mathematics at the University of Munich and completed his PhD-thesis at the Max-Planck-Institute for Physics.

His expertise and research on leadership issues are outlined in his book, ‘Die Kunst der Führung’ (‘The Art of Leadership’). His seminal article on the primacy of corporate culture was published in the Harvard Business Review and his extensive quantitative research on leadership diagnostics is frequently cited in business publications.
